India vs West Indies 4th T20I: how West Indies made 247
West Indies batted first and attacked from the start. Shimron Hetmyer hit 33 off 12 balls, with four fours and two sixes, before Prince Yadav caught him off his own bowling. Jewel Andrew made 21 off 16 before Axar Patel had him LBW, and Rovman Powell added 24 off 17 before Arshdeep Singh removed him.
Hope then took over and finished on 102 not out off 50 balls. Sherfane Rutherford made 49 not out off 26 at the other end.
India’s bowlers had no answer. Mayank Yadav went for 52 in his four overs without taking a wicket.
India’s chase: a fast start, then Keemo Paul
Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma gave India the fast start they needed. Samson hit six fours and four sixes in his 56.
Paul changed the game. He had Samson caught by Hetmyer and then removed Ishan Kishan for 6. Abhishek made 29 off 24 before Gudakesh Motie dismissed him, and captain Shreyas Iyer was caught by Andrew at deep point off Shamar Springer for 16.
Tilak Varma (43 off 25) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (41 off 20, with four sixes) kept India in the hunt. Tilak was then caught by Powell off Romario Shepherd, and Paul came back to take three wickets in the 19th over, including Reddy and Prince Yadav, who was bowled off the first ball. Naman Dhir also fell for a duck.
Arshdeep was hit on the arm and walked off, which ended India’s innings on 223 in the 20th over.
The numbers behind the result
Hope’s second hundred of the series. Hope also made 102 not out in the 2nd T20I in Ranchi. He now has two unbeaten hundreds in four games against India.
India keep leaking 200. West Indies have now passed 200 in three games in a row in this series: 252 in Ranchi, 209 for 7 in Indore and 247 for 3 here. That is 708 runs in three innings, and India have won only one of those games.
What it means for the series
The series is level at 2-2, so Saturday’s game in Bengaluru decides it. India have scored 223 in each of their last two games, so the batting is not the problem. The bowling is: India have now conceded 200 or more in three games running.
India also face a fitness question over Arshdeep, their best bowler in Indore, after he left the field injured.
