Shai Hope on the 2026 tour of India

Shai Hope arrived in India as captain of both West Indies white-ball sides and has been the batter of the tour. In three weeks he has scored four international hundreds, two in the ODIs and two in the T20Is.

ODI series: two hundreds in a 2-1 defeat

India won the first two ODIs to take the series. In the second, in Guwahati on 30 September, Hope made 104 as West Indies posted 405 for 7, only for India to chase 406. In the third, in New Chandigarh on 3 October, he moved up to open after Jewel Andrew was injured and made 162 not out as West Indies chased 352 with 10 balls to spare. It was their highest successful run chase in ODIs, his 21st ODI hundred and his fifth against India. He batted through a groin problem: “Felt something around the groin area but wanted to fight through till the end.”

T20I series: two unbeaten hundreds

  • 1st T20I, Lucknow: Hope made 52 off 37 balls, but West Indies were bowled out for 171 and India won by eight wickets.
  • 2nd T20I, Ranchi: Hope made 102 not out off 45 balls, with nine sixes, as West Indies chased 250 to win by six wickets.
  • 3rd T20I, Indore: Arshdeep Singh dismissed him for 5, and India won by 14 runs.
  • 4th T20I, Hyderabad: Hope made 102 not out off 50 balls in a total of 247 for 3, and West Indies won by 24 runs to level the series at 2-2.

The Hyderabad innings was Hope’s third T20I hundred, the most by any West Indian. Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis have two each.

This profile will be updated after the series decider.
