The races

Winter Champ Run Delhi

Listed for 29 November on a route around India Gate, with distances from 3K to 21K.

Delhi Neon Run

Held at Omaxe State in Sector 19B, Dwarka, on the same day, with every distance from 2K to the half marathon. It suits runners in west Delhi and anyone who wants a smaller field than the big stadium events.

India Republic Half Marathon

Held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on 17 January 2027, nine days before Republic Day. Its middle distance is 10.5K rather than the usual 10K.

Times Internet Half Marathon, Delhi

The last race on the current calendar, on 28 March 2027, on an India Gate route.

Planning your race in Delhi

Watch the air quality

Delhi’s air quality usually worsens from late October into November and December, as winter weather traps pollution close to the ground and crop-residue burning in neighbouring states adds smoke. Both November races fall in that period. Check the AQI on race morning; people with asthma or heart conditions should take medical advice, and nobody should chase a personal best on a day of severe pollution. Organisers can postpone or change events when restrictions are imposed.

Choosing a race

  • First race: a 5K at the Dwarka Neon Run gives you a finish line without months of training.
  • First half marathon: the January or March races give you more time to train, and conditions are usually better than in November.
  • Chasing a time: the March race on the India Gate route is the best bet, because the air is usually cleaner and the weather still cool.

Getting there

The January race is at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, which has its own station on the Delhi Metro Violet Line. Early-morning starts often come before regular metro services begin, so check whether the organiser has arranged early trains or plan to travel by road.

KhelGossip’s view: Delhi’s running calendar is in the wrong months

Delhi’s biggest races are packed into October and November, which is exactly when the city’s air is at its worst. The Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon is a world-class event with a course-record field, but asking nearly 40,000 amateur runners to race hard as pollution season begins is a real health trade-off, not just a scheduling detail.

Our advice to runners is simple: treat November races as fun runs, not goal races, and aim your training at January or March. Our advice to organisers is to move more of the calendar into late January to early March, when Delhi’s weather is cool and its air is usually far better. For a city with this much interest in running, a spring half marathon season would be safer and would produce faster times.
