Why the two Tests matter for India

The Tests in Wellington and Christchurch are part of the WTC 2025-27 cycle. India are fifth in the table on 51.52 with seven Tests left: these two in New Zealand and five at home against Australia. New Zealand are second on 72.22.

Even if India won all seven remaining Tests, they would finish on 70.37, so they need the teams above them to drop points. That makes these two Tests direct contests with a rival: every Indian win also costs New Zealand. Our WTC points table 2025-27 has the full picture.
