Rishabh Pant has asked Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for help buying land in the state, saying he wants to move his base from Delhi back to his home region. Pant posted the request on social media on the night of 7 August 2026, and Dhami replied the next morning that officials had been told to contact him.
What Pant said
Pant wrote that he had been trying for three years to buy land so he could shift his base from Delhi to Uttarakhand, without success. He said he wanted to return to his native place and contribute to the state, and spoke of his connection with the Pahadi people of the hills.
Dhami’s response
The chief minister praised Pant’s love for his home state and said instructions were being issued to the officials concerned. Those officials would get in touch with Pant and help him within the limits of the law.
The legal framing matters. Uttarakhand restricts land purchases by people from outside the state, and the rules on buying agricultural land in particular have been tightened in recent years. Dhami’s reply committed the government to helping Pant, but only through the normal legal process.
Pant’s Uttarakhand roots
Pant was born in Roorkee, in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar district, before building his cricket career in Delhi. He has played his domestic cricket for Delhi and his IPL cricket for Delhi Capitals and then Lucknow Super Giants.
The request comes during a busy stretch for Pant on the field. He was part of India’s Test side in Sri Lanka in August 2026, where he made 66 in Galle to become the first Indian batter to reach 100 Test sixes. Read our India vs Sri Lanka Test series 2026 report.
